Dr. Waleed Youssef was appointed on 8 January 2025 as Director General of ASA World, the global association of airport services providers.
Waleed brings over 35 years of extensive experience in the aviation industry. He has been instrumental in numerous airport privatization projects across various global markets. His transactional expertise spans both buy-side and sell-side engagements, including landmark transactions for JFK Terminal 4, Brisbane, Bangalore, Madinah, Muscat, Newark, Managua, Lima, Taif, Las Vegas, Mexico City, Athens, Farnborough, Saint Petersburg, Jeddah Hajj Terminal, Amman, Abuja, Abu Dhabi, Howard AFB, and Antananarivo.
Beyond airport PPPs, Waleed career includes the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, leading the corporatization and establishment of Abu Dhabi Airports Company, acting as the first General Manager of TAG Aviation UK and serving as Chief Strategy Officer at TAV Airports Holding.
Waleed has also held significant positions within industry organizations, including Board Member of ACI Asia Pacific, Chair of the ACI World Economics Committee, member of the ACI Europe Economics Committee and a member of to ACI task forces engaged with IATA on slot coordination and updates to the Airport Design Reference Manual.
Dr. Youssef holds bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in civil engineering, airport design, economics, and finance. He has lectured on airport privatization, economics, and policy at prestigious institutions such as UC Berkeley, ETH Zurich, the University of Surrey, and ENAC Toulouse.
